Mr. Kenneth Leon Kolowa holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Mzumbe University, and a holder of a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law School of Tanzania.
Kenneth has more than 10 years of experience in comprehensive trademark portfolio management and as a Partner and head of Intellectual Property Department, he has an extensive experience in all aspects of intellectual property law including patents, trademarks, copyright and designs, related litigation, commercial transactions, due diligence investigations, anti-counterfeiting and ambush marketing. He manages the prosecution of trademark filings; oversees and manages trademark oppositions and cancellations and infringement actions; monitors trademark watch notices and file oppositions as appropriate.
He also handles disputes involving intellectual property matters and business transactions. He has represented clients in patent and trademark lawsuits. His practice encompasses all aspects of IP law specializing in domestic and international intellectual property, trade secrets, competition and customs matters. His emphasis is on patent, trademark, plant variety protection and copyright prosecution, along with infringement litigation, licensing negotiation and anti-counterfeiting matters in Tanzania mainland and the Isles of Zanzibar.
On the Anti-counterfeit part, his department has heightened the country’s level of IP enforcement through anti-counterfeiting laws. Kenneth has handled various counterfeit matters such as investigations, cease and desist letters distribution and raids including those which involved – Hitachi TVs in Mwanza, Arusha and Dar es Salaam; ALWAYS Sanitary Pads in Dar es Salaam, Arusha and Moshi; Supermax Razor Blades in Dar es Salaam; Eurostar Satellite Dishes in Dar es Salaam, Samsung Electrical Devices and Mobile phones in Dar es Salaam and PFERD Abrasives, Grinding Wheels, Cutting and Finishing Tools in Dar es Salaam, all of which, have turned to be successful and to which, the measures taken have helped to drive a sharp message to importers of counterfeit products.
